A devastating fire at an apartment complex in New Westminster has led to the displacement of approximately 150 residents from their homes. The incident occurred at 905 4th Ave. around 1:30 p.m. on July 10, 2026, and required a substantial response from local firefighting teams.
Firefighters battled the flames for about 13 hours, with some residents trapped on their balconies before being rescued by the quick actions of emergency personnel. The main blaze was finally brought under control by 2:30 a.m. on July 11. While the precise cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials confirmed that all residents have been accounted for, although two firefighters and one resident suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Emergency Support Services volunteers quickly opened a reception center at Century House, where they provided crucial assistance and resources for displaced residents. A total of 18 volunteers from New Westminster, Delta, and Vancouver stepped in to help assess residents’ needs during this difficult time.
New Westminster Fire Chief Erin Williams expressed gratitude not only to her team but also to Burnaby firefighters who aided in battling the blaze. She emphasized the importance of community support during such emergencies, stating, "Our hearts go out to the residents who are experiencing this devastating loss. We are working closely with our Emergency Management team to help residents however we can."
