Exciting Arrival of Maria Celeste in Vancouver
Vancouver is buzzing with anticipation as Maria Celeste, a highly awaited Portuguese restaurant, prepares to open its doors next week. Named in honor of the Isidro brothers' mother, Maria Celeste embodies the spirit of traditional tascas – welcoming spaces where community and conversation thrive. The restaurant's intimate 1,300 square feet will seat up to 36 guests, creating a cozy gathering place reminiscent of the lively neighborhoods in Portugal.
Meet the Chef Duo Behind the Dream
Justin and Cristian Isidro bring years of culinary expertise to this venture. Justin, formerly the director of operations at the acclaimed Michelin-starred Kissa Tanto, teams up with Cristian, whose impressive background includes stints in top kitchens such as Lisboeta in London and Cozinha das Flores in Porto. Their vision for Maria Celeste is rooted in heritage and shared experiences, aiming to evoke a feeling of home for every diner. “We want everyone to feel welcome, like there's a seat just for them at our table,” says Justin.
A Menu That Celebrates Portuguese Cuisine
The restaurant's menu promises an authentic gastronomic journey through Portugal, crafted with local BC ingredients. Guests can look forward to delightful dishes such as Rissois de Camarão, Bacalhau à Brás, and Arroz de Marisco alongside larger shareable plates like Pluma de Porco Iberico and Bife a Portuguesa. Chef Cristian emphasizes the importance of preserving culinary traditions, stating, “Through every dish, we respect our roots and let seasonal ingredients shine.”
A Taste of Portugal on the Wine List
The wine selection at Maria Celeste aims to offer a journey through Portuguese vineyards, featuring a variety of options, from bright Vinho Verde to robust Alentejo reds. Reflecting their philosophy of “vou para a terra,” the Isidro brothers intend to showcase the diversity and richness of Portuguese wines.
