The Gift of Time Gala benefitting Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is set for Saturday, October 24, 2026. While the main event may be sold out, the spirit of giving continues through the open silent auction. Everyone can join in to make a difference starting at 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Each bid in this auction supports children and families facing serious illnesses across British Columbia and the Yukon.
A Personal Story of Hope Amidst Grief
This year’s gala will feature the touching story of the Gervais family, whose journey through their daughter Savanna’s cancer treatment highlights the invaluable support provided by Canuck Place. "Having a team like the clinicians at Canuck Place was like having a friend to help hold our hands through those hard days," shared Krista Gervais, reflecting on the tireless support they received when Savanna’s cancer relapsed.
Initially apprehensive about transitioning to palliative care, Krista found reassurance in Canuck Place’s compassionate team. "Deanna, our nurse, showed us so much compassion and love," she recalled. The hospice experience provided emotional escape, therapy, and precious moments of connection through activities such as a whimsical birthday party for Savanna, allowing friends and family to celebrate her life with joy.
Continuing the Legacy of Love
Sadly, Savanna passed away on November 19, 2022, but her lively spirit continues to influence her family and the community. Krista remarks, "Grieving Savanna has taught me to live with more purpose. We keep going. And we live for Savanna now." This resilience illustrates the profound impact of community support and the importance of organizations like Canuck Place.
